Crystal is woodsy, green, floral and fruity with herb and spice notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper. Extremely versatile, known for its notable aromatic qualities in IPAs and Bitters despite its low alpha acid content. First bred in 1983, with lineage extending back to Hallertau, Cascade, Brewer's gold and Early Green. It is considered to be an American version of Hallertau Mittelfruh, and is held up as one of the best substitutes for the German noble hop. Crystal has a light aroma of floral and cedar with some light spice in the background, first released in 1993 by the USDA and is the half-sister of Mt. Hood and Liberty.
